Week 2 Top Skills

This week we are asked to take a look into the CASA website and analyze the top skills that get people hired today. We also are asked to cover the previous years from 2018 to 2020, to see how the skills have changed over the years. The LinkedIn top skills from 2021 include, software development, project management, data analysis, digital marketing and project management. As you can tell all these have to do with online businesses and the marketing of products and services. We also have to understand the impact of the pandemic, which nonetheless caused huge waves in the business world to trigger the online transition faster than I think anyone anticipated.

As you can see in this image from https://lnkd.in/eCZNRhF, they show a list of best hard and soft skills in 2020, the year the pandemic hit. The Hard skills are revolve around the online industry and the computing skills that come with it. In 2020, we saw crypto currency skyrocket, targeting ads everywhere we scroll, and every click led to someones ad trying to get us to buy something. The online world became a digital marketplace for business to grow their audience and sales. The Block chain skill came out of the shadows with a background in crypto currency but business learned new skills and ways to efficiently use the block chain. "The promise of blockchain — essentially a shared digital ledger — is huge. Advocates see it as a secure, decentralized, and cost- and time-efficient way to transparently track shipments and transactions of all kinds."

Here is research from 2018 on https://blog.linkedin.com/2018/january/11/linkedin-data-reveals-the-most-promising-jobs-and-in-demand-skills-2018. They wrote up a list of the most important skills in 2018, I see this as very interesting compared to 2020, and 2022 and how it has changed. You can tell that in 2018 it seemed like companies knew the direction they wanted to go, to the online world. These skills have to do with building the companies up, today the skills are about expanding the companies. I expect the trends to stay the same and for companies to continue to find new skills that are needed the most to capitalize on the scale of their companies.
